Mekasonic was growing

Image
Mekasonic loudspeaker was getting exposure all over India When I started writing this Blog, I registered the domain name as loudspeakermaking.blogspot.com but then during last month I decided to change it as :  mekasonicloudspeaker.blogspot.com because this blog is all about creation and growing together with the Mekasonic brand. While doing such changes, these blog pages disappeared from the web because of some mismatch of domain names. It was showing as address not found. However, after lots of efforts and spending time it started showing again in the new link. The earlier link is still not getting redirected to the new one due to some technical issues. Because of such an unwanted problem, it got delayed to prepare the current post. In the last post I told how the range of mekasonic products were developed. These were a complete range of speakers ( 5" to 18") , Woofers, Mid range and Tweeters , Crossover networks, speaker enclosures and accessories. It took about 12 year...

Development of new models

Mekasonic Loudspeaker -  Development of models When I started making mekasonic loudspeakers, my focus was for three standard sizes - 8, 10 & 12 inch.  Apart from PA type models with fixed edge paper cones, I also tried some cones with soft surround materials like cloth, foam and rubber. These soft edge cones in 8" and 10" size resulted in extended low frequency response, were good as woofer and low mid bass units.  As time passed on, appointed dealers selling mekasonic speakers were getting confidence in the product and feedback from customers were also encouraging. Other than three sizes mentioned above, customers were also asking for both smaller and larger speakers for different applications. It was also necessary to make some good tweeters and midrange speakers required for speaker systems. I found 6 inch cones both for woofer and general purpose applications and some tweeter cones in 3" and 4" from Siva Electronica which helped me to add new ranges in me...

Mekasonic Loudspeaker : On the ride

Image
Mekasonic Loudspeaker : On the ride My venture of making mekasonic Loudspeaker was started in a small rented 10' x 10' room on the roof of a three story building. As the activities were in progress, l felt a shortage of space and money. At this point, I was rescued by Mr. Amitananda Das (M.Tech from Calcutta University - Dept of Radio Physics & Electronics) a very good friend of mine, who came forward with some funds and also a better accommodation for my workshop in a portion of his house which was lying vacant. His kind gesture helped me to proceed comfortably. Moreover, with his high academic background he also helped me to solve many technical matters. I am also grateful to my friend Dr. Ajit Pal (Former Professor, IIT Kharagpur) who used to help me quite often for making equipment for loudspeaker testing. Products identified and developed. Shape, size, models, technical specifications, brand name and packaging finalised. Now, the most difficult part of the jo...

Mekasonic Loudspeakers - Initial Developments

Image
Initial developments of Mekasonic Loudspeaker In my previous post I wrote about how I started my venture of making  mekasonic loudspeaker. After the ball started rolling, the next focus was up gradation of product quality with better look and improvement of technical specifications. It involved a lot of experiments spending time and money to get results. Initially I started finding out the users -both individuals and commercial , who were looking for good quality speakers. That was through my friends, relatives and other contacts. It was hard to convince people that I have made a good quality Loudspeaker here which can be compared with branded products. I used to visit them with prior appointments and arrange for live demonstrations. One of my observations was that the individual users were interested only for high fidelity speakers - woofer and tweeter for using with their high power stereo amplifiers. Most of the amplifier and speaker systems were imported brands. I ...

Hi friends, I am Aloke Mukherjee. I started making Loudspeaker in Kolkata, India in the year 1973. The brand name of my product was mekasonic In those days there were not many manufacturers of loudspeakers in India. Most of the speakers available were famous international brands like  Philips, Goodman's, Wharfedale, Celestion, Altec,Tanoy etc.   A Philips 12 inch woofer (made in Belgium)    A Goodman's Speaker of 60's and Tweeter with Volume Control A Harman Speaker of Delhi      Known Indian brands were Bolton, Philips, Harman, and some other Manufacturers around Delhi.  I had some interest in High Fidelity sound system. I used to install and repair Hi Fi sets of my friends and relatives.  I found a book about Loudspeaker written by G.A.Briggs, founder of Wharfedale (U.K) speaker and got inspired to make speakers.  I had no idea about how to proceed. However, incidental...
